Milan Momcilovic, a forward who distinguished himself at Iowa State last season by leading the country in three-point accuracy, has officially committed to the University of Kentucky. His decision, announced this Monday, marks a significant acquisition for the Wildcats' basketball program.
The 6-foot-8 athlete from Wisconsin had previously submitted his name for the NBA draft. However, he ultimately withdrew before the final deadline last week, signaling his intent to transfer to a new collegiate team.
Momcilovic was considered among the elite prospects in the transfer portal. Reports from various media outlets indicate that he weighed offers from prestigious institutions such as Louisville, St. John's, and Arizona before ultimately selecting Kentucky as his next destination.
During the 2025-26 season, Momcilovic demonstrated unparalleled skill, sinking an impressive 136 three-pointers, a national best. His remarkable 48.7% success rate from long range also topped the charts nationwide. Upon departing Iowa State, he was tied with Naz Mitrou-Long for the second-highest career three-pointers in the program's history, with a total of 260, just ten shy of Jake Sullivan's record.
Further showcasing his shooting prowess, Momcilovic performed exceptionally well at the recent NBA Scouting Combine held in Chicago. He converted nearly 69% of his attempts across four distinct shooting drills.
In his last season with the Cyclones, Momcilovic started all 37 games, averaging 16.9 points and 3.1 rebounds. Over his three seasons at Iowa State, he participated in 102 games (starting 101), maintaining averages of 13.2 points and 3.2 rebounds, coupled with an impressive 42.8% success rate from three-point territory.
According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Kentucky's team was not initially projected to be among the preseason Top 25 before Momcilovic's commitment. His arrival is poised to significantly enhance their standing and expectations for the upcoming season.
Last season, the Wildcats concluded their campaign with a 22-14 record, notably suffering a defeat to Momcilovic and his Iowa State team in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Now, the sharpshooter will join forces with the very team he helped eliminate.
