Rhyne Howard delivered an extraordinary performance, achieving a season-high 36 points for the Atlanta Dream. Her remarkable accuracy from beyond the arc, sinking eight three-pointers, was instrumental in securing a 91-75 triumph over the Connecticut Sun in their recent encounter in College Park, Georgia.
Supporting Howard's incredible effort, Allisha Gray contributed significantly with 26 points. Angel Reese showcased her all-around game, adding 12 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists, as Atlanta (6-2) solidified its position at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. After trailing by just one point at halftime, the Sun briefly seized the lead early in the third quarter. Rivers' layup capped a 6-0 run, giving the visitors a 55-50 advantage two minutes into the period.
Atlanta's next lead materialized when Reese scored five consecutive points, putting the Dream ahead 66-65 with 29.3 seconds left in the third quarter. Canada then extended Atlanta's lead to three points with a layup just 1.8 seconds before the quarter ended.
The fourth quarter began with a scoring drought until Connecticut's Brittney Griner committed a flagrant foul, resulting in Reese converting one of two free throws at the 7:43 mark, breaking the deadlock.
Atlanta's scoring surge continued, with Gray's consecutive baskets and Reese's layup pushing their lead to 75-65. Morrow's layup at the 4:39 mark marked Connecticut's first points of the final quarter, but it was too little, too late.
Gray's layup and Howard's three-point play extended the Dream's lead to 88-74 with 1:44 remaining, effectively sealing their victory.
Howard's third three-pointer of the first quarter gave the Dream a 16-13 lead at the 3:43 mark. However, Connecticut closed the opening quarter with a 7-1 run, taking a narrow 25-24 lead into the second period.
Gray connected on Atlanta's eighth three-pointer of the first half, giving the Dream a six-point advantage with 3:07 left.
