For the first time since their 2022 campaign, the Ole Miss baseball squad finds itself back in the NCAA Tournament's Super Regionals. Their journey in this high-stakes phase will lead them to a familiar adversary from the Southeastern Conference.
The Rebels, boasting a season record of 39-21, are slated to clash with the Auburn Tigers, who stand at 42-20. Due to Auburn's superior seeding as the No. 1 regional seed and No. 4 overall seed, they will host the crucial best-of-three series at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Alabama. Ole Miss entered the tournament as a No. 2 regional seed.
The Super Regionals are scheduled to unfold between June 5th and June 8th. The victor of this intense showdown will secure a coveted berth in the College World Series, an event eagerly anticipated by college baseball enthusiasts.
Auburn clinched their spot in the Super Regional after a nail-biting win against Milwaukee, the No. 4 seed in the Auburn regional. In a winner-take-all contest on June 1st, Auburn emerged triumphant with an 8-3 victory, sealing their advancement.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss secured their place in the Super Regionals by sweeping the Lincoln Regional with an impressive 3-0 record, demonstrating their strength as the No. 2 seed.
Interestingly, the Rebels and Tigers did not face each other during the regular season or in the SEC Tournament. Auburn concluded their SEC play with a 17-13 record, while Ole Miss finished with a 15-15 record in conference matchups.
Since 2005, Ole Miss has reached the Super Regional stage eight times, with their most recent appearance being in 2022 against Southern Miss. That year, the Rebels triumphed in a road Super Regional, ultimately paving their way to a national championship victory.
Despite their strong history, Ole Miss has hosted a Super Regional in Oxford on three occasions (2005, 2006, 2009) but has yet to secure a series win on their home turf during this stage of the tournament.
The NCAA baseball tournament calendar includes the Super Regionals from June 5th to June 8th, followed by the highly anticipated College World Series, which will run from June 12th to June 22nd.
